Caressant
Care Harriston offers its Residents a home-like
environment in the quaint town of Harriston. Located
in a mature neighbourhood a few short blocks from
the downtown shopping area and other community
amenities, accommodations are all on one lever
in a single story building. The attached Retirement
home complements the Long Term Care Accommodations,
allowing spouses, siblings and friends to continue
to live and interact with one another, while each
receiving the support appropriate to their own
needs.
The Accredited Long Term Care
Residence provides 24-hour care and support under
the program standards of the Ministry of Health
and Long Term Care with an added measure of TLC
provided by qualified staff from the local area.
Registered Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses
provide care, medications and supervision for
care given by the Nurse Aide staff.
Of special interest to many
is the Restorative Care Program that offers physical
activities for those whose goal it is to maintain
their physical abilities or for those whose goal
it is to rehabilitate to a higher level of physical
ability. The Restorative Care program not only
offers twice daily exercises, but with the supervision
of a physiotherapist, residents are offered individualized
therapeutic activities and physiotherapy exercises
based on their personal goals.
Regular and special daily activities
provide for social and stimulating opportunities.
Our activities staff are always coming up with
new and innovative events and things to do to
complement the tried and true favourites keeping
everyone involved and enthusiastic. Regular church
services, community volunteers, pet therapy, intergenerational
activities with the local school and regular outings
also keep Residents in-touch and involved in the
community.
Memory Lane is a secure unit
for those Residents who may require extra supervision
and/or less stimulation than they would receive
as part of the larger nursing home unit. Staff
in this unit, have a special understanding of
those who may suffer from a dementia such as Alzheimer,
and provide care and activities in keeping for
their special needs.
Healthy meals and meal
service are provided in one of the bright comfortable
dining rooms. Menus are designed by a Registered
Dietician to follow Canada’s Food guide,
and follow a three week cycle, with two menu choices
for each meal. Food is prepared on sight, with
a home-cooked flare. Special and therapeutic diets
can be provided based on each Resident’s
individual and assessed needs with consultation
available by a Registered Clinical Dietician.
